Why it costs what it costs

The panels are printed flat and cut afterwards, so the gold crosses, the laurel and the Joshua 1:9 cartouches carry across the shoulder seam and around the sleeve instead of sitting in a rectangle on the back. A lined shell costs more to build than a single layer, and the lining is what keeps a printed jacket from handling like a windbreaker.

A jacket is the one piece here that spends part of its life off your body. It comes off in a warm room and goes over the back of a chair, onto a hook by the door, across your arm through a lobby — hanging in plain view of a room you are sitting in, still being read while you are not wearing it. Everything else in the capsule is only ever seen in motion. This one has to hold up standing still.
