Why it costs what it costs

Dye-sublimation costs more than a surface print because the cloth has to be printed and heat-set before a single panel is cut. What you get for it is a pattern that stretches with the fabric rather than sitting on top of it.

The high-rise waistband is the hardest place on a legging to keep a pattern honest. It is a doubled band of the same cloth, it gets pulled harder than anything else you own, and a surface print would show its wear there first — cracking, then lifting. Because the colour is in the fibre, the band stretches and the cross pattern stretches with it. There is nothing sitting on the surface to crack.
