Why it costs what it costs

A wide leg takes appreciably more cloth than a straight one, and every extra inch of it is printed. The panels are printed flat and cut afterwards, so the repeat runs down the leg and across the seam instead of restarting at the inseam.

A narrow trouser holds the pattern still against your leg. A wide one lets it swing — the cross pattern arrives a half-step after you do and settles a half-step later. The same repeat that reads as texture standing still reads as movement walking, which makes this the one piece in the capsule that is doing something while you are.
